The Burkinabe army announced on Monday evening that it shot dead 12 terrorists in response to an ambush last Wednesday against a unit of the Tin-Akoff military detachment in the Sahel province of Oudalan, that cost the lives of 14 soldiers.
“Twelve assailants were shot dead on Wednesday, 11 November, in response to the ambush against the unit of the Tin-Akoff military detachment on a reconnaissance mission on the Tin-Akoff-Gorom axis, at Bediabé in the province of Oudalan,” said the general staff of the armed forces in a note reviewing the situation of operations on the ground.
The 14 Burkinabe soldiers killed were buried on Monday in Dori, in the capital of the Sahel region.
In addition to the dead, the attack left eight soldiers wounded, three of them in a serious condition, according to a provisional assessment communicated by the government.
The attack was claimed by the Islamic state, according to local media.
The election campaign, which had been interrupted for 48 hours, resumed on Sunday.
