Amnesty Visited ASATTAHIR Foundation On Gender Based (GBV) In Sokoto

As one of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working extensively on various aspects of Gender Based Violence, ASATTAHIR International Foundation received in audience, Research Assistant of the Amnesty International, Mrs Oluma Obike, who was on a research mission to Sokoto state.

Mrs Obike was received at the corporate headquarters of the Foundation by a team of staff and volunteers of the foundation. After introduction of ASATTAHIR Team by the Executive Secretary, Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba, Mrs Obike explained her mission in Sokoto and to ASATTAHIR Foundation in particular. Specifically, Mrs Obike revealed that the essence of her visit is to collect information on behalf of Amnesty International, cases of GBV affecting women, girls, boys and youth in the state.

In his response, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba briefed her on the various activities and engagements of the Foundation related to GBV in the state and its efforts to mobilize, enlighten and educate the people on the dreadful scourge of GBV and how to curtail it.

In his presentation, Prof. Baba outlined the various interventions of the Foundation on GBV, which include support for survivors, awareness campaign, protection of vulnerable groups and partnerships with strategic organizations such as NAPTIP, NEMA, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, the State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs as well as Child Protection Network and Save The Child Initiative among other major platforms dealing with GBV.

In their separate responses, Sa'adatu Musa Gotomo, the GBV Desk Officer and Basharu Guyawa Isa, the Human Rights Desk Officer elaborated on the activities of the Foundation related to GBV in their respective desks. 

Media Jingles sponsored by the Foundation and aired on different conventional and social media platforms were also played as evidence of the aggressive awreness campaign embarked upon by the Foundation.

Mrs Obike was later guided through the office complex and various pictorial evidence of the Foundation's engagements in GBV.

In her closing remarks, the Amnesty Research Assistant thanked the Foundation for the warm reception and congratulated the platform for its passion and extensive engagements in GBV activities. 

Thereafter, the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru thanked Mrs Obike for her visit and craved for collaboration with Amnesty International on human rights issues for the advancement of humanity. The group later posed for a photograph, which rounded off the lengthy session of interactions.
