Bauchi Agency Gifts Orphans Items Worth N22m For Christmas

Gov, Bala Mohammed

The Bauchi Agency for Orphan and the Vulnerable Children (BASOVCA) has distributed assorted items valued at about  N22 million  to registered Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC)  homes for their Christmas celebration.

Handing over the  items to Care-givers, on Thursday, in Bauchi, for distribution to the orphaned children  homes, BASOVCA’s chairperson,  Mrs Hassana Arkilla, said the items comprised 1500 bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of Maggi cubes, rubber mats, clothing materials, pillows and  20 cows meant  to be slaughtered for  the beneficiaries across the state’s 20 local government areas.

She said the items would be delivered to the beneficiaries through the registered  members of  the agency’s  OVC league across the local government areas, assuring that the agency would also closely monitor the  distribution.

Arkilla assured that the agency would continue to consider the plight of OVC by promoting their welfare, education and health, including catering to their basic needs.

She commended  the administration of Gov Bala Mohammed for its regular support to the agency to achieve such “unprecedented positive results”, saying that other states had visited the agency to learn, for replication of their model.

” We intervene in such areas as Education, Psycho-Social support, Shelter, Welfare, Food and Nutrition,  empowerment and Health” She said .

Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa, state Chairman of the OVC league, commended the agency for its regular intervention and support to orphans and vulnerable children.

He assured that the items would be evenly distributed to deserving beneficiaries, without any primordial or sectional considerations, saying, ”we are presently enrolling additional OVC for wider coverage”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that BASOVCA has no fewer than 100,000 OVC on its register. (NAN)
