Foundation Enlightens Women On Menace Of Fistula VVF In Bauchi

A Bauchi state based Non-governmental organization under the aegis ‘Zainab Tessy Friends of Fistula Foundation’ Weekend conduct an enlightenment drive for womenfolk on the menace of Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF) in Kirfi and Alkaleri Local Government Areas of the state.

The exercise which pulled an unprecedented crowd of women from the two LGAs, followed the increasing number of women being affected by the menace in the councils’ areas.

Two victims of the menace, Hajara Bello and Malama Rakiya Ali both of Lumi village in Kirfi LGA, said they have distaste from people, especially their husbands following their suffering from the ailment as a result of prolong labour during birth.

They also explained that the ugly consequence has forced them to adopt Family Planning with a view to forestall reoccurrence of the ugly trend of surgical operation resulting from Fistula.

A medical expert in the state, Dr. Mansur Dada during the occasion spoke at length on the dangers inherent in Fistula and preventive measure against the ailment, stressing the need for pregnant women to regularly visit maternity clinics.

He explained that it is through regular visit to maternity that pregnant women would be kept abreast about their maternal health, warning that any undergoing birth labour for eight consecutive hours will have to face the rigors of medical officers.

Dr. Dada debunked the insinuations that early marriage is the cause of Fistula in prenatal women, saying “Early marriage followed by prenatal visitation leads to safe delivery of pregnant woman”. 

Dada attributed the objective behind the formation of the NGO to Zainab Tessy Halid concern for the womenfolk, especially women undergoing pregnancy with a view the educating them on the dangers inherent in virginal Fistula.

Zainab Halid had told newsmen that her enlightenment drive took her to various towns and villages across Bauchi state aimed at educating the womenfolk on the menace of the fistulae ailment among women and girls.
