Man, 37, Docked Over Alleged House Breaking, Theft


A 37-year-old man, Suleiman Tolu, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.

Tolu, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence on Sept. 21 at about 2:00 a.m. at Fiyinfolu Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Akinwale alleged that the defendant and others at large broke into the house of one Agubuo Chukwuma.

He alleged that the defendant and the others stole a Vivo phone valued at N76,000, an Infinix S3X phone valued at N62,000 and N392,000 cash, all totally valued at N530,000 belonging to the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravenes Sections 411(1) (2) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lanre Owoleso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Jan. 19, 2021 for hearing. (NAN)
