Tension As CMD ABUTH Comes Out of COVID 19 Isolation, MD, FMC Keffi Goes In

Pandemic Claims 15 in Nasarawa State

Barely a week after the Chief Medical Director of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Professor Ahmed Hamidu   Umdagas, is reported to have fully recovered from the havoc wreaking COVID-19, which forced him into isolation for close to three weeks, his counterpart at the Federal Medical Centre Keffi, Dr Yahya Baba Adamu is reported to have gone into Isolation over suspected COVID-19 related complications.

Dr Adamu who spoke in a chat with Health Monitor on his condition, confirmed that he went into isolation on 23rd December to look after his health after he has had series of engagements with different kinds of people in the hospital in recent days, where he is suspected to have been infected by the virus, a situation that has affected his health, and which has consequently necessitated his isolation.

Attempt by this reporter to know where he is, precisely, so that he could go and pay him a visit, where he has gone into Isolation, was turned down by the Medical Director.

On insisting, Dr Adamu who thanked our reporter for his concern, told him that there was no need for the visit, since he is in isolation.

He however told him (our reporter) that denying him knowledge of where he is, and access to him, is only but in his best interest and interest of the society at large. He stressed that, ” it behoves on all of us to do all we can to limit the spread of the dreaded virus by staying away from infected people”.

In a related development, not fewer than 15 people are reported to have lost their lives across Nasarawa State, as a result of the Pandemic.

This was corroborated by the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, who disclosed that so far, 15 persons have died in the state from COVID-19, since the outbreak of the virus.

He said in Lafia after a security meeting that, ” As at Tuesday December 22, the state has discharged 668 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 26 under home care and 3 in isolation.

“85% of the cases are found in Karu, Keffi and Lafia local government areas, while the rest are found in the remaining 10 councils of the state,” he said.

The Deputy Governor disclosed that Dr Rebecca Isaac Umaru, Former Provost of College of Education Akwanga died of the virus on Monday, December 21.

He also said Dr Janet Angbazo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism was tested positive of the virus and she is currently on isolation.

According to him, a member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Lafia was tested positive.

He said, the second wave of the pandemic is worrisome, because the virus has become more violent than the previous one.

Dr Akabe said that from statistics available to the government, even younger people are now vulnerable to the virus as it was more aggressive than before.

He therefore urged the public to always wear their face masks, maintain social distancing, and wash hands regularly to curtail the spread of the virus.
