Another Kano Child Kidnapped Amid Rescue Of 7 More In Anambra, Enugu

A 9-year-old boy, Yusuf Nasiru of Kawaji Quarters in Kano State has gone missing, just as seven other kidnapped children from the state were found in Anambra and Enugu states.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that over a dozen children were kidnapped in the area, which is the worst hit by the problem in Kano.

The young Yusuf was kidnapped on December 28, 2020 after returning from a neighbourhood Islamiyya School around 6:25pm.

Recall that in October 2019, the Kano State Police Command had paraded a gang of six kidnappers for allegedly abducting, selling and forceful conversion to Christianity of nine children in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, subsequently, had constituted a Commission of Inquiry to investigate infringement of rights of the rescued children as well as unearth all the cases of missing persons from 2010 to date in the state.

Announcing the rescue of the seven more children on Monday, the state’s commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, told BBC Hausa Service that the committee was responsible for the latest rescue after the team visited some children’s homes in Anambra and Enugu States.

According to him, the parents of the children had already identified their kids and that they will be reunited soon.

Mr Garba added that pictures and videos of the missing but found children were taken and disseminated, which prompted five parents to identify their children.

Mr Garba said the children would be reunited with their parents soon after scrutiny.
