BREAKING: Police Arrest Young Man, Other 3 Over Faked Kidnap In Ekiti

The Police in Ekiti State have arrested a young man who faked self-kidnap and three others over abduction.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, ASP Abutu Sunday, in a statement signed on Saturday, quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Mobayo, as saying four persons were arrested inside the bush between Iworoko and Ifaki-Ekiti.

According to the Commissioner of Police, a woman, Mrs. Aladejana Aderonke, came to the Rapid Response Squard, (RRS) Office and reported that her cousin, Adelusi Adeweye, was kidnapped on the 31/12/2020, along Ado-Iyin-Ekiti road.

Mobayo, added that the kidnappers were calling through the GSM number of the supposed victim and were demanding for the sum of N250,000 as ransom.

The Commissioner said upon the report, the RRS swung into action for investigation and for possible arrest of the culprits.

“In the process, four suspects: Yusuf Hassan, Yakubu Usani, Agboola Damilola, including the faked victim; Adelusi Adeweye, were arrested at about 2200hrs inside the bush between Iworoko and Ifaki-Ekiti.

“During interrogation, the four suspects arrested confessed to have conspired and faked the kidnapping of Adelusi Adeweye, in order to get money from the family members for the new year.”

The Commissioner of Police said further investigation and finding was ongoing, promising that as soon as it is concluded, the suspects arrested would be charged to court for prosecution.

He called on members of the public to be wary of people around their communities and promptly report any criminal case or suspected persons or group of person in their neighborhood to the nearest police station for timely action.
