Unknown Gunmen Attack Auditor General, Kidnap Two In Bauchi

Unknown gunmen week shot Bauchi state Auditor General, Alhaji Abdu Usman Aliyu while driving from his village home of Kardam back to Bauchi after a visit to his parents.

It was gathered that the suspects were trying to kidnap the Auditor-General when eventually they opened fire on his car carrying three male and three females including Alhaji Usman.

It occurred Saturday in a forest when Usman was on his way back to Bauchi where the suspected kidnappers opened fire on the car and shot two persons and kidnapped two others.

Narrating the incident Sunday night, one of the Auditor General’s daughter said,, “They were coming back to Bauchi from Kardam village when some gunmen accosted them. The driver of the car upon instruction by its occupants tried to make a u-turn when the suspects opened fire on the victims”.

"Noticing the sporadic shootings, the occupants of the car directed the driver to stop. The car is carrying our father, one other person, the driver and three females. It was from the sporadic shootings that the gunmen hit our father on the nose and part of his neck”.

"During the shootings by the gunmen, they also shot one female on her thigh. They took all handsets of the car occupants when it stops. They also kidnapped the driver and one other person from the car”

She also stated, “The gunmen immediately vanished with the kidnapped driver along with the other person, leaving our father and the woman they shot in a pool of blood. A good motor-cyclist Samaritan helped our father to nearby major road”

"He was subsequently rushed to a General Hospital in Dass, and later transferred to Bauchi where he is now receiving treatment”, the daughter of the victim said.

She continued, “The kidnapped driver of her father was however lucky to have somehow made away from the culprits, but the other person is who is a friend to my father is still in captivity. The gunmen have called a number one of the families of the person kidnapped demanding a ransom of N30 million”.

The daughter of the Auditor General explained that her father used to go to his parents village of Kardam every weekend for frat to them, saying security operatives have assured their families of fishing out the kidnappers.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRP) of the Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Mohemmed Wakil has confirmed the incident, saying they have rescued one of the victim, Zilgifilu Mohammed.

Wakil said the gunmen are still holding into hostage one  Iliyasu Sulaiman aged 55 years. He said that the AG is now receiving treatment at ATBUTH, Bauchi, assuring that their men and officers are intensifying efforts to apprehend the gunmen.
