BREAKING: NURTW Members Allegedly Attacked RTEAN Officials In Lagos

The National President of the Road Transport Employers Of Nigeria, (RTEAN), Alhaji Musa Muhammed Maitakobi denied the accusation labelled against his officials contained in a publication signed by the Chairman of NURTW in Lagos, Alhaji Akinsanya (MC-Oluomo) alleging that RTEAN officials attacked NURTW members in Obalende, Lagos.

Maitakobi alleged that, on Monday 8/2/2021 NURTW members stormed 2 garages under the operation of his officials took them over, pushing out his officials. Two days later, RTEAN Members re-take the said garages and continue with their lawful business. Unfortunately on Thursday 11/2/2021 NURTW mobilized hundreds of hoodlums, to attacked RTEAN members with sticks, cutlass and stones, which he declare as an attack upon innocent citizens going about their lawful business, not clash as being previously alleged.

According to Maitakobi, RTEAN is operating in only 6 out of 20 LGAs in Lagos state, while NURTW is operating in the remaining 16 LGAs. He lamented that even in the 6 LGAs they are operating, NURTW has motot parks in Badagry, Surulere, Ikorodu, Ojo, Ekpe, Amou and others.

“When we heard rumours that NURTW were planning to drive us out of our 2 motor Parks in Obalende, we reported the matter to AC Area A Lion Building and both parties were invited by the police. Police warned NURTW to desist from any such action. In fact the matter was reported to the Police Headquarters, and FCID Headquarters Annex at Alagbon Close”. Said Alhaji Maitakobi

The President said; RTEAN has cordial relationship with Lagos State Government, Security Agencies and the Ministry of Transport. We appeal to the Authorities concerned to investigate this matter and do justice to the victims who sustained various degrees of injuries during the assault, and compensate them of the vehicles that were destroyed.

Alhaji Maitakobi urged all RTEAN members to be law abiding, while on their lawful businesses.
