A former President of Protection Rights of Journalists of Africa (RPJA), Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has expressed shock over the demise of the Correspondent of Voice of America (VOA), Hausa Service, Ibrahim AbdulAziz, who died last week, saying the association has lost a hard working and committed member.
Aged, 49, Abdul Aziz died on Saturday, 6th February 2021 following a ghastly auto crash while on his way to Bauchi to attend a wedding ceremony.
The former PRJA President and Founder of Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN), made the remark in a condolence message he personally signed from Paris and issued to newsmen in Kano on Friday.
According to Adamu Gwarzo, the death of Ibrahim Abdul Aziz Yola and member of PRJA, was a great loss not only to his immediate family, but to the association and the journalism profession as a whole.
Comrade Adamu Gwarzo said he worked with Late Abdul Aziz when he (Adamu Gwarzo) was the president of PRJA while the deceased was the representative of the association in the North East region of Nigeria.
"So, I knew how committed he was in ensuring that Journalists carry out their duties without slight infringement on their fundamental rights.
"After working together in the association, we also worked at VOA while he was at the Hausa Service, I was also working at the French Service of the Radio station. So, he was a fearless journalist who carried out his duty with utmost sense of responsibility and honesty,"Adamu Gwarzo said.
He, therefore, prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and give his family, relatives and friends as well as his colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The deceased, who left behind three wives and nine children, had since been buried in accordance with the Islamic rites in his hometown, Yola, Adamawa state.
