BREAKING: Two Farmers Killed In Clashes With Herders In Ekiti

At least two people were killed in clashes between farmers and herders in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Saturday.

Per AIT reports, the deaths occured in Isaba community where farmers were attacked by herdsmen who mobilised their kinsmen on Saturday morning, after the farmers had complained about the invasion of their farm lands by the herders.

The police spokesperson in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette by telephone.

” There was a clash between some Bororo and farmers around 10:00 a.m morning that led to the deaths of two farmers. We are currently investigating the issue. Before we got to the location they [farmers] were already killed. We are after the perpetrators,” he said.

Unrestrained migration of Northern pastoralists towards southern farmlands continue to raise ethnic tensions and violence across the country.

Herds of cattle in search of food often invade farms, eating up the tools of farmers and drawing resistance and reprisals.

The National Livestock Transformation Plan initiative being developed by the federal government to wholesomely resolve challenges of nomadic cattle rearing was truncated abruptly amidst power play in the nation’s Presidency.
