JUST IN: Bandits Kill Vigilantes, Villagers In Sokoto

Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sokoto State Governor

No fewer than 13 persons were reportedly killed when bandits besieged a community in Sokoto.

The incident occurred Thursday night at Tara in Sabon Birni local government area.

This attack came less than 48 hours after bandits invaded Gorau and abducted a brother and sister in-law of the state’s Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Bashir Gorau.

However, seven persons were said to have been wounded by gunshot, Daily Trust reported.

Mainasara Muhammed, the village head of Tara, was cited in the report saying that the bandits stole livestock and razed food storage house during the attack.

“They came around 11:58 pm, through the uncommon route to the village because our men and youths were guarding all the major entrances.

“We have not been sleeping in the night because of the incessant attacks on our villages. We divided ourselves into groups, and each group was guarding one of the major entrance into the village,” he said.

Mr. Muhammed added, “So they sneaked into the village through the eastern axis and opened fire on members of the group that were stationed around that area, killing both of them.
