The Northern elder's forum, NEF has weighed in on the recent outburst by the Presidency about people planning to overthrow President Buhari.
Recall the presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina had yesterday, warned Nigerians that the Presidency has gotten wind of developments that some people had planned to recruit some elder statesmen and leaders of thought across the country to form an alliance in order to pass a vote of no confidence on the president.
By doing this, the people had aimed to cause a wide range of issues which include creating chaos across the country which will, in turn, lead to a means to overthrow the president.
Adesina had warned that the presidency will waste no time to use the state's resources to fight and punish whoever is found in that position.
While responding to Adesina's threat, the Director, Publicity, and Advocacy of the Northern Elder's Forum, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has rather asked the current administration to deal with the problems facing the country.
Speaking further, the NEF spokesperson wondered why the presidency is telling Nigerians that some people are planning to overthrow the president instead of using state mechanisms to fish out the perpetrators of such acts in indeed, the state mechanism exists.
Baba Ahmed added by saying the presidency has failed twice and that Nigerians are not happy with what currently obtains in governance today.
He went ahead to accuse the presidency of creating the grounds to which this kind of plot can grow adding that if indeed the country was well-governed, there won't be any need for people to plot against the presidency.
Baba Ahmed added that as a group, the Northern Elders forum speaks and engages with other groups across the country and they have a right to, He also mentioned that he is also aware, that other socio-political groups in other parts of the country meet and discuss politics too and it is their fundamental right to do so.
The group, however, berated the presidency for issuing a blanket statement and opined that the presidency is rather using words to scare people.
