The APC Youths Progressive Forum has endorsed the emergence of Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as the next APC National Chairman.
According to the forum, the emergence of a former Governor of Nassarawa state and Senator representing Nassarawa South Senatorial District in the forth-coming national convention of the party would automatically denounce the prediction that APC may collapse after president Buhari exit.
The National Chairman of the forum, Hon. Ukkasha Hamza Rahama told the press in Bauchi Monday that the fundamental task before the ruling party is to reconcile with its members, win elections and sustain President Buhari policies and programs after 2023.
He said, “We are confident that Senator Al-Makura is an experienced mediator and coordinator who will bring highly developed leadership and management skills to the table if elected APC National Chairman”.
Rahama recalled that Al-Makura was the only Governorship candidate that in 2011 won elections under the platform of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) defeating the then ruling party and incumbent Governor Akwe Doma.
The forum national chairman explained that it was the defeat of former governor Akwe Doma by Tanko Al-Makura that marked the beginning of regrouping of other political parties to form the present ruling APC.
Rahama noted that the support to Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makara for APC National Chairman is coming at a time when the party faces enormous challenges related to its leadership.
He added, “It is also when the great accomplishment of the Muhammadu Buhari administration can be reversed if we fail to stabilize our party to ensure victory in the 2023 general elections”.
“Our decision as the APC progressive Youth Forum to openly declared our support to Senator Al-Makura deep-rooted after protracted consultations among the progressive stakeholders, party loyalists and youths, across the 36 states of the Federation”.
Hon. Ukkasha Rahama said however that a party without strong norms of internal democracy, where impunity and imposition of candidate against the wish of the members becomes an order of the day cannot bequeath any standard democratic ideals to a nation like Nigeria.
These, Rahama argued, were some of the factors that made APC lost elections in Edo, Zamfara, Bauchi and Adamawa states in the 2019 general elections.
He concluded, “As the 2023 National elections are fast approaching, the ruling APC must take holistic decisions in the overall interest of its members and Nigerian as a whole by supporting Senator Tanko Al-Makura to lead the party ahead of the polls”.
