BREAKING: Shiites Accuse Police of Abduction of Member — Africa Daily News

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Shiites have accused men of the Nigerian Police Force of abducting one of their members during a Free Zakzaky protest.

In a statement released by Head of the Movement’s Academic Forum, Abdullahi Muhammad Musa, on Wednesday, said the alleged abduction occurred on 7th May, 2021.

The statement reads in part,”We would like to draw attention of the public to a strange happening, unbecoming of a police officer, still less the FCT Police Command. On Friday, 7th May, 2021, around 1400 hours, police whisked Yahuza Haruna Masaka off to an undisclosed detention facility. To this very moment, they have, in a vicious manner, denied his family any access to him.

“Mr Haruna arrived at Wuse, Zone 3, to give his younger sister bus fare. On his arrival, he saw her in a Toyota Coaster bus, and moved closer to talk to her. Unknown to him, the bus, together with the people on board, had been arrested by the police. As they caught sight of him talking to his female sibling, the police descended on Mr Yahuza with beating and whatnot. The bus, with the 62 people already under the so-called arrest, was moved off to the Eagle Square. At that point in time, the manhandled Yahuza was handed over to the patrol team.

“Even though Yahuza’s younger sister was released, for the past 25 days, all effort to locate him has been abortive, to no avail. Abduction has grown rife in this part of the world, and even the police are now giving it a mad-professor experiment. It is all sad and tragic. Where are the codes of practice and behaviour? Or, have police operatives cast caution to the winds and dived into what they had been employed to contain?

“It is quite unfortunate that police have now reduced the Eagle Square to IGP’s gruesome “Torture Square”. In a manner not befitting a police profession and those engaged in it, they accosted and arrested underage (both male and female) and passers-by that were not protesting. They assembled them at the new “Square” and tortured them inhumanly, even using electric shocks which led to the sudden and unfortunate demise of Naziru Mu'azu from Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State; and 44 people sustained varied degrees of critical injuries.

“In view of the foregoing, we at first condemn conversion of the Eagle Square into IGP’s new “Torture Square”. We aslo demand for immediate release of Mr Yahuza Haruna Masaka. We again wish to assure the police that we are going to challenge the illegal arrest and vicious tortures of our people in the new “Square” at the famous Eagle Square in a court of competent jurisdiction.

“While condemning the unlawful abduction of Mr Yahuza Haruna as well as the violation of his fundamental rights, yet we demand for immediate and unconditional release of our leader, His Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoub El-Zakzaky (H) and his wife, Malama Zeenah Ibraheem,” its concluded.
