A senior lecturer with the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Engineer Ya'qubu Isah Al-jasawi Almaliki, stated this while presenting a paper to mark the event, held at the Assembly Hall of Nasarawa state University, Keffi, recently.
The fift annual international conference was organised by the Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa state University, Keffi had in attendance participants from different tertiary institutions in the country aimed at educating Muslims on the need to be part of science and technology initiative in the society.
The quest lecturer Engineer Ya'qubu Saleh Isah Al-jasawi Almaliki, spoke on the topic "The shifting coordinate of Islam and Muslim influence towards transformation" stressing that science and Technology in Islam is encouraging but does not support the elimination of humanity or production of mass destruction, adding that Islam accept what will make human kind flourishing and how the society can stay together in love and harmony.
He charged Nigeria not to always rely on the importation of foreign goods into the country but rather find ways of developing materials to compete with the contemporaries society.
Earlier, the Head of Department, Islamic Studies, Nasarawa state University, Keffi, Dr. M. A Yunus, said the department started organising such event in (2016) and the theme of this years' conference is "Islam, Science and Technology for sustainable development", was carefully selected, pointed out that Islam is a religion which encompasses everything in human endeavours including science and technology.
According to him, the department felt that the areas captured and treated in the Quran and Sunnah should be showcased academically and it's committed to be part of global trends of development in all facet of human life.
The chairman of the occasion professor Mohammed Akaro Mainoma and the host, the Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa state University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, represented by deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor, Haruna Kuje, commended the department of Islamic studies for organising such and event and pledged their support to enable the department succeed.
