2023 Presidential Race: Atiku Far Outweighs Bala Mohammed – Alliance

By Yahaya Muhammad

The Northeast Alliance for Democratic Change, a political pressure group has described the brags by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi of the need for him and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar to meet and discuss their presidential aspirations as an exercise in futility.

The zonal chairman of the alliance, Lawal Mukhtar Ladan noted that even if such fora is provided for the two presidential aspirants, Atiku Abubakar having had experiences on the presidential level of governance for eight consecutive years, would far overshadow Bala Mohammed who is just a slapdash to that level.

The Alliance chairman told the press in Bauchi yesterday stated that based on his antecedents the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar is more than qualified aspirant to carry the PDP flag ahead of the 2023 polls than Bala Mohammed, hence Tambuwal and Saraki should graciously step down for him.

Ladan therefore advised national leadership of the PDP that unless it fielded Atiku as its presidential flagbearer, it is bound to woefully lose the 2023 polls, stressing that the former vice president is today the most politically versatile politician in the country.

“Wazirin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar is the most qualified presidential aspirant within the nation’s political setting. Aspirants like Aminu Tambuwal, Bukola Saraki and Bala Mohammed should be considerate and patriotic enough to pull-up for Atiku in regional interest”, Ladan said.

He recalled ladan that all the other five geo-political zones have at one time or the other acceptably enjoyed the presidential slot, except the Northeast which had not have it since attainment of independence about 60 years ago when its illustrious son, Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was immorally assassinated in a cold blood.

As far as the Northern region is concerned, Northwest had the presidential slot, same to Northcentral, but Northeast has not taken the slot in over 60 years of our independence, and for the Nigerian political class to be just and equitable, the 2023 shift should be assigned to the Northeast”, Ladan defended.

According to him, it’s a shame for any politician up North, Northcentral and Northwest in particular to brace up for the nation’s plum job at this paradigm shift to the 2023 polls, but rather such aspirants should lend credence to any contender from the Northeast.

Ladan added, ‘I think it is arguably right for the presidential slot under whichever political party be reasonably zoned to the Northeast to steer the ship of the Nigerian state. After-all, Bauchi is the cradle of Nigerian politics”.
