The President and Founder of Maryam Abacha American University, Conglomerate, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has advised the Management of Sa'adatu Abubakar Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso to collaborate with other similar institutions across the globe for the benefit of the college.
He gave the advice when he led the Niger Republic's Minister of Education and Scientific research, Dr.Mamoudou Djibo who paid a courtesy visit to the college in Kano on Thursday.
Prof. Gwarzo, who is also the President, Proprietors of Private Universities in African, noted that International partnerships between colleges or universities are beneficial to not only staff and students but to the world as a whole
He said there was need for the college to start thinking on how to collaborate with other institutions across the world.
According to him, the students of the college would acquire what he described as internationalisation skills in view of fact they will interacted with different people from different socio-cultural backgrounds
"A college which has over 109 academic Staff with PhD and 248 others with Masters degrees should start thinking about international partnerships.
"Forming international partnerships with other colleges and universities help in no small measure in exposing the school to other colleges across the globe," he said.
He also stressed the need for the college to engage in students exchange between the college and other institutions in Niger Republic for the teaching of French language.
"A number of students are now looking for opportunities to study internationally an, for this reason, it is better for universities and colleges tto increase internationalization and attract applicants from across the globe.
"Exchange program offers students opportunity to travel internationally via any exchange program in addition to giving universities better opportunity to better understand the culture of other nations," he said.
He said in addition, international collaboration programs help by providing students with the ability to study, work, and travel in an international capacity, hence the need for the college to give emphasis on French language.
Earlier, the Provost of the College, Prof. Isa Bunkure told the Minister that the college which was established 40 years ago, has over 19,000 students, 109 staff with PhD and 248 others with Masters degree.
He said the National Universities Commission had approved 12 degree Programmes for the college pointing out that the Programmes are under the supervision of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Bayero University, Kano.
"The college has all the facilities in its French department but the problem is lack of teachers and lecturers," the Provost said.
He appealed to the Minister to facilitate the collaboration between the college Niger Republic in areas of staff training and development as well as students exchange programme.
In his remark, the Minister pledged the readiness of the Government of Niger Republic to collaborate with the Kano state government in the areas of students exchange programme, staff training and development.
Also in her remark, the Kano state commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Mariya Bunkure assured the college of State Government's commitment to support the partnership.
