An Arewa socio-political group, Concerned Northern Political Trackers of Nigeria, has admonished politicians and opinion moulders to stop spewing incendiary rhetorics over the outcome of the 2023 general elections.
National Coordinator of the group, Isah Haruna, who gave the admonition in a statement on Saturday, warned that failure to do so would overheat the polity and set the nation ablaze.
He also advised aggrieved candidates to desist from making unfounded allegations and inciting actions that were capable of defaming the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and putting its officials in harm’s way.
Consequently, Haruna urged the candidates to allow the Election Petition Tribunals to adjudicate on the cases filed before them in the nation’s best interest.
The Arewa group said, “We wish to call on all those who lost the just-concluded elections to remember that only one person can win an election at a time.
“Hence, it is not only unfortunate but also condemnable for any politician to use mischievous means to react to losing election by spreading false information, intimidation and threat to life as well as deliberate insinuations to discredit the election umpire, INEC. This is a disservice to the nation.
“We, therefore, call on whosoever is aggrieved to seek redress through the available legal means and desist from overheating the polity.”
While calling on INEC to do the needful by protecting its image and those of its officials, especially Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, and Engr Paul Omokore, the Commission’s Chairman and ICT Director respectively, the Arewa group dismissed claims that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, gave $10 million to the latter through the Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello, as graft to shutdown INEC iReV portal during the 2023 general elections.
