Bauchi Govʼt to Provide Platforms For Discussions On Youth Development

By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchí.

The Bauchi State Government says is determined to provide platforms for discussions that would empower youth and women for a positive impact on their lives for the growth and development of the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed stated this while addressing youth groups who visited the Government House, Bauchi to commemorate this year's International Youth Day in the state and reaffirmed the commitment of his administration towards a greater Bauchi State through the transformation of education, healthcare, and other critical sectors of youth development.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mohammed Auwal Jatau reminded the visitors that education play a greater role in equipping youths with green skills, knowledge, and ideas, hence schools, colleges, and universities are encouraged to incorporate sustainability into their curricula so as to provide education to young people that will enable them to become useful members of the society and future leaders.

He disclosed that, in the last four years, his administration had made a huge investment in education sector with the renovation and construction of many schools across the state in a deliberate effort to restore the lost glory of the sector for the delivery of sound and qualitative education to the students and pupils.

"On behalf of the Government and people of Bauchi State, I congratulate you on the commemoration of this Year’s International Youth Day.

The theme of this year, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards A Sustainable World," is very apt, and it holds immense significance for our present and future generations. It simply reminds us of our collective responsibility as young people to offer our quota towards ensuring an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly state and a country that will allow us to achieve our economic growth and development.

"Our environment is facing numerous challenges, including climate change, deforestation, air and water pollution. These issues demand immediate action, and it is you, the youth who have the power to make a difference. I urge you to acquire skills that will empower  you to mitigate the impact of human activities on the environment."

The governor commended Hajiya Hauwa Hassan Musa and her team as Bauchi State representatives in the Nigerian Youth Parliament for organising the event, saying that youth empowerment is crucial in driving sustainable development and stressed the need for the private sector and civil societies to work together to provide young people with opportunities to develop their green skills for national development.

"In Bauchi State, we are investing so much in our youths through capacity building, placing them in strategic positions that will allow them to contribute to nation-building and also discourage them against engaging in social vices.

"Presently, we have made history in the governance of our dear Bauchi State by appointing many young people into his cabinet to promote youth engagement and inclusivity. May I, therefore, urge you to support the government's programmes and policies that seek to uplift the lives of youths and women in the state."

Earlier, the Bauchi State representatives of  the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Hajiya Hauwa Hassan Musa expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for providing a lot of opportunities to young people to participate in the governance of the state, and therefore pledged the parliament's support to his administration for better service delivery.
