Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has said that justice and fairness are panacea for peaceful co-existence among various ethnic groups in any society.
Governor Lalong, confronted by the journalists shortly after attending a book launch and 25th anniversary of Catholic Bishop in Service of Most Reverend Hilary Nanman Dachelem at Bauchi St. Paul Church Thursday, said the round table with the Plateau ethnic groups followed the putting of each and every community into governance of the state.
“By the time you introduce justice and fairness among people of different shades of opinion or faith, you are giving them a sense of belonging and ultimately promoting peaceful co-existence among them”, he said.
The Governor Simon, who was explained on how be brought normalcy, tranquility and harmony among warring groups in Plateau state shortly after assumption to power said, “Before my assumption to office, I knew and aware of the challenges bedeviling the state”.
“What we did first when I assume power in Plateau state was to identify all the communities, we had about 53 ethnic groups and I sat down with all of them and assure them of justice and fairness in my leadership whereas I ask for their support and cooperation in this regard”.
Lalong explained that it was his exhibition of those traits that the people of Plateau state are today enjoying as solution to some of the problems, and called for their continued support and cooperation towards the sustenance of the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state.
The Governor then commended Most Reverend Hilary Dachelem for launching a book to complement his efforts in achieving peace in Plateau state, recalling that the Reverend was posted to Bauchi after appointing him a Bishop.
“Reverend Dachelem is coming from my Local Government, he is my tribe and I kew when you talk about peace now, he was one of those who initiated and brought peace to Plateau state and today people have learnt to live together”.
