Sickle cell anemia patients in Bauchi state have called for the stoppage of the yellow fever mass campaign immunization scheduled to commence this week by the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA).
Muhammad Kafi Liman, Sickle Cell Aid Foundation state President, in a statement made available to the press under a clarion call to the Bauchi state government, expressed fear over what they described as mass dying of their brothers’ sickle cell anemia disease victims.
“We are appealing to His Excellency Executive Governor Sen. Bala Muhammad Abdulkadir to stop this coming Yellow Fever mass campaign Immunization which Bauchi State Primary Health care would start this coming Tuesday, 19/01/2021”, they said in the statement Monday.
The victims argued that due to the inability of sensitive campaign awareness especially in rural areas, millions of people doesn't have knowledge to differentiate between Hypertities B Yellow Fever disease and Sickle Cell Anemia Disease in the communities across Bauchi State.
“Thousands Sickle Cell Anemia Disease victims who we are living in danger, we and our parents and relatives can't find the guarantee of Sickle Cell Anemia Disease antidote that will make us cured, which many peoples are calling it as Yellow Fever and so on”.
“This is why when thousands of people heard an advertisements of mass campaign on Yellow Fever which many peoples know it as Hypertities B would rush and accept it as Sickle Cell Anemia Disease cured. Because of Sickle Cell Anemia Disease and Hypertitie B which many peoples know it as Yellow Fever look alike”.
The reason why Sickle Cell Anemia Disease and Hypertities B (Yellow Fever) their sign and symptoms are the same within the bodies of victims with these diseases. The first sign of Sickle Cell Anemia Disease can cause the eyes to become Yellow which known called as (Jaundice) the same sign of Hypertities B, Yellow Fever. Secondly.
According to them, sickle cell anemia disease can cause the problem of anemia in our bodies same as Hypertities B yellow fever, as it can cause the slims of hands and legs with swelling of stomach and biggest head for the victims same as Yellow Fever caused.
“Same as malaria and bacteria diseases caused many problems for the sickle cell anemia disease victims the same as Hypertities B caused for the victims. As sickle cell anemia disease can cause too weakness of the bodies and they walk like a camelion due to weakness same as yellow fever caused for the victims”.
Kafi Liman, therefore appealed to the state government to set up an awareness committee to educate people of the different between yellow fever related to sickle cell anemia disease and Hypertities B yellow fever related to liver diseases due to protect them from falling into another health danger.
